Real

It is the surface that can’t be

trusted, a crust frail and tenuous.

It won’t hold me; I fall right through

though want it to be strong. Yet deeper,

deeper still is where the real lives,

the holding of love that holds me too.

And falling through, though fraught with

fear, is the only sure ground that saves.
